When we arrived at our weeklong August retreat and began our tenure as the Whiffenpoofs of 2019, our Musical Director and Business Manager broke the news: we were going to use a sizable portion of the Whiffenpoof budget to visit every water park in the contiguous United States. The group would be known as the Water Whiffs. While the plan fell by the wayside, the name stuck. We got the question many times: What is a WaterWhiff™? We spent the year discovering the answers, and this is what we found:

A Water Whiff lives at the bottom of the Marianas Trench
A Water Whiff drinks lots and lots of water
A Water Whiff always writes a thank-you note
A Water Whiff inhabits the mythical Spice Realm, forever attempting to cool its fiery tongue
A Water Whiff makes lots of sounds
A Water Whiff values the opportunity to see live jazz
A Water Whiff has tried Mory’s Baker soup
A Water Whiff would like to trade in an alcoholic Mory’s cup for fry cups
A Water Whiff is an underwater Dragonfish
A Water Whiff knows that kindness, even more than passports, is what gets you around the world
A Water Whiff believes that bun and cheese is an important part of daily nutrient intake
A Water Whiff plays a trick on time; then, the clock resumes.

We hope this album offers the same mix of humor and hydration we pursued throughout our year in this wild, wonderful group. With this collection, we write one more chapter in this century-old tradition, add 16 new arrangements to our repertoire, and sing a final Whiff Song before we “pass and be forgotten with the rest.”
